Nerf guns, Nerf guns and more Nerf guns…
That’s how so many kid’s toys rooms look like. Kids love using them, and collecting the different kinds, so they tend to pile up really fast. Before you know it, the room is filled with nerf guns and you can’t walk across your house without being shot somewhere by some soft orange nerf missile!
Heck, I love these toys too (just like many other adults), and I would be a total hypocrite if I said I don’t. Working at a startup, naturally my office is also filled with different nerf guns, and every once in a while we like to have a small war ourselves :).

Building a nerf arsenal

This can be a very easy project to do, that your kids will love, and have a lot of fun using. It should only take a couple of hours, supplies are very easy to get, and you can even do it together with your kids – I’m sure they’ll have a lot of fun decorating it as well.

What you need

The process

First, you start with painting the peg boards – This can be done with just one color (e.g.: black), but if you’re going for something a little more special, I would put a few strips of tape on the peg board before spray painting, and after the paint is dry removing the tape for a cool effect. (btw – you can purchase a black peg board to begin with, and then save this part, but it could also be fun to paint with your kids)
Take a look at this for reference:

Next, you create a sign above the peg board – You can use part of the peg board for the sign, or put it on a piece of cardboard instead. I would use the colored tape for this. It doesn’t have to be complicated, making it look rugged is a good thing in my opinion.

Finally, you just need to hang it on the wall. Stick metal or plastic pegs on the board wherever you want to hang the guns. Let your kids enjoy!

Going the extra mile on this one is really simple, and will make your kids feel a hundred times cooler. Get a strip of LED lights (they’re really cheap online). All you need to do is glue them to the back of the board, and hook them up to your closest outlet.
